A scarce pair of original Georgian solid brass door knobs which, when new would have been individually hand fitted to suit each door, and it's lock by the supplying ironmonger or locksmith. The knobs are a taper fit to the crude round iron spindle at each end, one end being filed square to suit the lock follower, in this case a bare 1/4 inch (6 mm), the knob at this end being attached by a grub screw. The tapered end fitting means that the distance between the knobs is fixed and non-adjustable, in this instance at 1.1/4" (40 mm). Ideal for use with plate latches.
Knob diameter 1.3/4" (45 mm). Back plate diameter 1.5/8" (41 mm).
