Miniature fireplaces such as this are often wrongly referred to as salesman's samples, my opinion is that they are simply fireside decoration for the home, maybe having some significance in much the same way as some Victorian fairings. Although the centre section of this somewhat resembles a real hob grate fireplace (it lacks fire bars) of the late Georgian period, the surround shows stylised Oak trees to each side, all surmounted by a royal coat of arms. Certainly nothing any manufacturer of the real thing would produce as a sample. The missing grate bars are replaced by a loose polished brass "Tidy Betty". Also it stands on a heavy cast plinth for obvious display purposes.
Width over plinth 12.1/2" (320mm). Height 13" (325mm). Depth 3.1/2" (90mm). Weight 7.5 Kilo's.
