Georgian Brass Drop Handles for Door Latch or Lock.
A scarce pair of original Georgian drop handles, dating from circa 1780. As with all door furniture of this period these would have been individually handed fitted to suit a particular door and latch, or lock. The handles lift to operate the lock or latch, and drop when left, they are attached to a crude iron spindle by screws at each end, this gives a non adjustable distance between the two, in this case 2" (50 mm). The latch or lock end of the spindle has been filed to 1/8" x 1/4" (4 x 7 mm) for the last 1/2" (12 mm).
Handle width 2.1/8" (53 mm).
