Original Pair of Georgian Cast Brass Rim Latch Knobs
A scarce pair of original Georgian hollow brass door knobs which, when new, would have been individually hand fitted to suit each door and it's lock by the supplying ironmonger or locksmith. The knobs are a taper fit to the crude round iron spindle at each end, one end being filed square to suit the lock follower, in this case a bare 1/2" (6 mm), the knobs are both attached by grub screws. The tapered end fitting means that the distance between the knobs is fixed and non-adjustable, in this instance at 1.1/2" (38 mm). Ideal for use with plate latches, which when available can be found here. One of the two knobs has very minor dents but it's 200 years old!
Knob diameter 1.3/4" (45 mm). Back plate diameter 1.5/8" (40 mm).
